General Membership Information and Work Duties

Full participation in the cooperative work of the club is an important responsibility of each Regular, Family, and Student member of the Sandhill Soaring Club. During the flying season, each club member is scheduled for 6 to 8full days of tasks at the airport, in accordance with his or her particular experience and abilities. (Instructors and towpilots work more frequently, but for only half a day at a time.)

Rights and Responsibilities of Active Membership

  • one-time initiation fee
  • yearly dues to the Soaring Society of America (SSA); includes a subscription to Soaring magazine
  • monthly Sandhill club dues
  • full participation in the cooperative work of the club
  • attendance at monthly club meetings is encouraged
  • entitled to receive flight instruction in gliders from club's CFIGs, to use club gliders at the established flight fees (tow fees and hourly rental for use of club gliders), and to participate in all club activities.

Membership Categories

Regular Membership
(individual)

Regular Family Membership
(spouses and children who age 22 or younger and in school)

Student Membership
(individual under age 22 or younger and in school)

Associate Membership
(limited category, for individuals whose time commitments do not allow them to fulfill club work responsibilities)

Honorary Membership
(limited category, admitted to individuals with outstanding contribution to soaring or the club)

Introductory Membership
(individual showing interest in soaring, expires after 24 hours, typically admitted for guest flights)

Specialist Subclass of Membership
(limited category, admitted to members with special skills needed by the club)

Neighborhood Membership
(individual who is a power pilot, who lives in the general area of Richmond Field, and bases his aircraft there)

Inactive Membership
(Any member who has failed to pay dues or any sum to the club for more than 30 days)
